More About the Program

The American Language Learning Institute uses a Holistic Approach to teach the English Language. We focus on teaching all four critical language skills (Reading, Speaking, Listening and Writing) during the learning process.

By using leveled stories the program incorporates other critical skills needed to be a successful global citizen. Critical grade level academic vocabulary words, topics and concepts are incorporated to enhance the learners academic performance in school. In addition, many stories embed social skills and character education topics such as Diligence, Honestly, Loyalty, Perseverance, and etc. to promote future success and good citizenship. Finally, leveled stories also are a way to help a student develop confidence by learning important everyday communication skills.

The curriculum utilized by The American Language Learning Institute has been selected and developed to help students learn English to a level of Automaticity. The curriculum uses multiple approved State Level resources/materials from the United States of America Educational Systems.
Progress monitoring is automatically built using Leveled Readers so the learners/parent/teachers can see each student’s progress after each lesson.

Cornell Interactive Notebooks (CIN). CINs provide students and parents with a learning legacy or learning diary. A learning legacy is a historical copy of the work the student performs per each lesson.

End of the Level Assessments for Grade 3 and above. These assessments are developed and utilized by the State of Texas in the United States of America to assess student’s progress from year to year by grade level and per subject area. Upon receiving a satisfactory or mastery score on one of these assessments, suggests that the learner have mastered enough of the grade level vocabulary and concepts in a specific subject to advance to the next grade level in the American School System.

Scientifically Research-Based Strategies Teaching and Learning Strategies

The following scientifically researched based teaching/learning strategies are incorporated into the program. These are proven brain-based strategies well researched by Neuroscientists that are proven to be successful for a typical learner.

Leveled Stories

Leveled stories uses an assessment to determine the learner’s current reading level. Stories are organized in levels of difficulty. As the learner masters each level/story, they advance to the next story/level of complexity.

Leveled stories are often used for developing reading competency but are perfect for developing the four language learning skills of Reading, Speaking, Listening and Writing as they are leveled to the student’s level of competency. The learner/parent/teacher can easily monitor the learners progress in each of the four language learning skills.

Contextual Learning

Learning takes place when information is presented in such a way that students are able to construct meaning based on real-life experiences of themselves or others. Contextual Learning is reality-based, outside-of-the-classroom experience, within a specific context which serves as a catalyst for students to utilize their disciplinary knowledge, and which presents a forum for further formation of their own experiences or others.

Sequential Learning

Sequential learners gain understanding in linear steps, each step follows a logical order from the previous one. Global learners tend to learn in large jumps, absorbing material almost randomly without seeing connections, and then– suddenly– “getting it.” American Language Learning Institute mainly incorporates sequential learning as when students learn in steps it helps them to better understand concepts for use in real-life situations. Research has shown that global learners tend to have difficulties later in life trying to perform real-life problem-solving situations. Most global learners do not have proper comprehension of the basic understanding of the basic concepts in order to solve more complex problems

Gradual Interval Recall

Incorporating graduated interval recall, learners are reminded new words at gradually increasing intervals, each time they remember longer than the time before. Optimal spacing for information to move from short-term into long-term, or permanent, memory is dependent on each student as each student learns at a different pace.

Organic Learning

Every new item is introduced is given within the context of a story or conversation. This enhances learning and retention in multiple ways. It allows your brain to automatically integrate intonation, rhythm, melody, and pronunciation. It helps to embed prompts for your memory for easier recall. When you need a word, it will be on the tip of your tongue (ready to use).

Principle of Anticipation

Human brains are wired to automatically process speech and “anticipate” a correct response. It’s an intricate thought process that most of us take for granted. Research has shown that new connections are activated whenever this dynamic system is triggered. By systematically asking for understanding, pausing for a response, and then reinforcing the correct response, this process accelerates learning, increases understanding, and activates new neural pathways in the learner’s brain.

Vocabulary Development

Effective communication in any language depends on mastery of a relatively limited number of words and structures. Trying to learn too much at once substantially slows the process, and many people quickly become discouraged. By deliberately limiting the amount you learn at any one time, giving your brain a chance to internalize each new item before moving on. Once this foundation is built, adding new words and phrases becomes easy and natural because there’s a clear framework to attach them to.

Educational Game-Based Learning

An appropriate educational game combines academic content within a fun learning activity. The learner should have fun, should be challenged and should learn the academic content. For the game to be an effective learning tool, it should incorporate some of the strategies we have already discussed. As we all know learning is not always fun and games, sometimes it takes hard-work and passion and dedication.

Pre-IELTS courses are designed to help students gain a strong foundation in the English Language. Courses are designed by using Leveled Stories are used from an Early Beginner Stage to Automatic Stage of Language Development.
These Leveled stories help students learn English and are educationally based to help student excel in all school subject areas.

Reading and Listening Quizzes are auto graded for immediate student feedback. Writing and Speaking tests need to be submitted and feedback is provided within 24-48 hours for a nominal fee.

About the Owner and Developer

The Owner and Developer Tony Goedicke is a retired (Regional Educational Trainer/Specialist, Teacher, School Administrator and District Administrator) with 24 years of experience in the United States of America education system.

A Bachelors and Master’s Degree in Education from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, USA and a Principal Certification from University of Houston-Victoria in Houston, Texas, USA.

For 24 years, I have been employed by very diverse schools in all socio-economical ranges. Houston, TX is the 4th largest city in the United States by population. Houston, TX is home to a large international population in terms of race, culture and religion and I have had the pleasure of working with a most in a successful manner.

In the United States, I was also the owner of a small consulting company named Worldwide Learning Solutions. This privately owned company performed school district and campus evaluations. Post-evaluation I assisted in the development of effective practices within the areas of; curriculum development, teaching and learning practices, procedures and processes enhancements, administrator training as well as teaching/modeling of the effective implementation of all of the above.

As an Educational Specialist with The State of Texas, I had the pleasure of developing, evaluating and training a large number of schools and school districts within the State of Texas. Our goal was to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses and assist schools, administrators and teachers to improve their educational practices.

Region 4 Educational Service Center responsibilities encompassed the following:

  • Training a seven county area composed of 47 public school districts and 40 open-enrollment charter schools. Region 4 represents 1.2 million students, 105,000 educators, and 1,500 campuses.
  • Provides educational support for The State of Texas Education Agency initiatives and partners with other education service centers to deliver high-quality services to meet state mandates.
  • Assisting school districts in improving student performance by producing products and services to promote student achievement, enhance educator effectiveness, and help schools maintain fiscal viability.
  • Assists school districts in managing crucial operational areas while achieving compliance with state and federal regulations.
